Robert Teeter was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. After service in the US Army Military Police, he joined the Detroit Police Department where he graduated first in his class from the Detroit Police Academy. In his 15 years with the DPD, he was promoted to Sergeant and served in various precincts and bureaus, including Traffic Safety, Internal Affairs, the Police Academy, and the Police Legal Advisor’s Office.
While working full time as a police officer, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Police Administration from Wayne State University with a 3.0 HPA. He was then admitted to Wayne State University Law School where he graduated cum laude and was ranked in the top 6% of his class. Among his law school honors were a Silver Scholarship Key, two American Jurisprudence Awards, and an Outstanding Oral Advocacy Award for Moot Court.
After graduation, he moved to Texas where he started his oil & gas career as a petroleum landman and oil & gas title attorney. He was subsequently recruited by regional, then national and international energy corporations where he worked as a staff exploration & production attorney. His many experiences include both onshore and offshore projects, as well as a 3 year assignment to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil as a resident attorney for Shell Oil Co. In 2006 he retired from Dominion Exploration & Production as Senior Counsel, and returned to Michigan.
Mr. Teeter is licensed to practice law in Michigan and Texas and is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, the State Bar of Texas, and the Mecosta-Osceola Bar Association. He is also a Registered Landman and is a member of the American Association of Professional Landmen, the Michigan Association of Professional Landmen, and the Michigan Oil & Gas Association, where he serves as a member of the Legislative and Legal Committee.
