Elder Law is a relatively new term used to describe the specialized area of law practice devoted exclusively to the problems & legal issues of aging people and their families. 

Elder Law includes the traditional practice areas of:
  • Estate Planning (Wills, Trusts, & Powers of Attorney)
  • Probate and Estate Administration
  • Business Succession Planning
  • Real Property, and
  • Tax Law
But Elder Law also includes:
  • Social Security Benefits
  • ​Veterans Benefits
  • Long-Term Care and Medicaid Planning
  • Guardianship & Conservatorship
  • Asset protection
  • Disability Rights and Special Needs Planning, and
  • Trust Administration
And any other areas that deal with the increased risk of mental or physical Disability and Incapacity that often accompanies aging.

(Note that not all Elder Law lawyers practice in every area that could fall into the Elder Law category.)
